GUILDERLAND CENTER, N.Y. (May 12, 2020) — Remarkable Liquids, New York State’s premier craft beverage distributor, has partnered with the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York, the Dairy Farmers of America (DFA), and Price Chopper/Market 32 for distribution of milk to local families across Upstate New York.
As the state’s dairy farmers have a surplus of milk largely because schools have been closed for weeks due to the COVID-19 pandemic, these partners have come together to utilize their resources to provide a service to families in need.
“The only way to survive a catastrophe of this scale — one for which there is no playbook — is to come together as a community. The opportunity to help with this specific project, in this way, felt great as it was the most obvious and direct route to helping a community that has given us so much,” said Spencer Noakes, general manager and co-founder of Remarkable Liquids.
“We are very grateful to Price Chopper/Market 32, DFA, and Remarkable Liquids for partnering with the Regional Food Bank to provide nearly 2,500 gallons of milk for those who have been hurt so much by COVID-19,” said Mark Quandt, executive director of the Regional Food Bank. “These companies have been loyal, generous supporters of the Food Bank for many years, and this donation today is one more example of the great compassion and commitment they have for people in need in this community. The milk they are donating will nourish many families at this difficult time.”
“We’re aware that many children don’t have easy access to the nutritious breakfasts and lunches they typically have at school. This solution enables us to work with DFA, a longtime partner, to assist New York State dairy farmers by purchasing excess milk, support the outstanding efforts of the Regional Food Bank, and, most importantly, get milk to families with children,” said Mona Golub, Price Chopper/Mart 32 vice president of public relations and consumer services.
Price Chopper/Market 32 partnered with Dairy Farmers of America (DFA), a national dairy cooperative made up of more than 13,000 dairy farm families, which owns Garelick Farms, a well-known regional milk distributor, to purchase a half truckload of whole and two-percent milk. The nearly 5,000 gallons of Price Chopper/Market 32’s PICS brand milk are being donated to the Regional Food Bank for distribution to food pantries and families across the region.
10 pallets of milk were delivered to Remarkable Liquids that will be repack the crates of milk into cardboard cases for ease in distribution by the Food Bank to regional food pantries and then to nearly 2,500 families.
“As a dairy farmer owned cooperative, we are pleased to partner with Dean Foods and Price Chopper to support our local communities. Our farm families remain dedicated in their commitment to producing quality nutritious milk,” said Jennifer Huson, senior director of marketing, council affairs and industry relations, Dairy Farmers of America Northeast Area.
